RingConn Gen 3 review: what's new, what's the same, and who should upgrade
RingConn Gen 3 launched at CES 2026 with two headline features: vibration alerts and nighttime blood pressure trend monitoring.
But if you already own a Gen 2, the upgrade question is more nuanced. The core tracking experience is nearly identical. The real question is: do the new features matter enough to pay $349 (or $314 pre-order)?

What’s actually new in Gen 3
1. Vibration alerts (but not for phone notifications)
Gen 3 has a built-in vibration motor. This is the most visible hardware change.
What it does:
- Health alerts (unusual patterns detected)
- Reminders (low battery, missed tracking windows)
- Finger-based alarm (gentle wake-up nudge)
What it doesn’t do:
- Phone notifications (no text/call vibrations)
- App message alerts
RingConn deliberately limited this feature. It’s not trying to be a smartwatch on your finger. If you expected notification vibrations, that’s not what this is.
Real-world experience: The vibration is gentle. Some users report missing alerts during deep sleep. If you’re a heavy sleeper, the finger alarm might not wake you reliably. For light sleepers, it’s a nice alternative to a phone alarm that doesn’t disturb your partner.
2. Blood pressure trend monitoring (nighttime only)
Gen 3 tracks blood pressure trends automatically while you sleep.
Important caveats:
- This is NOT a medical blood pressure monitor
- It tracks trends, not absolute values
- You can’t use it like a cuff to check “what’s my BP right now”
- The feature was already in beta testing for Gen 2 users
If you have hypertension concerns, this doesn’t replace a real cuff. But if you want to see patterns over weeks (how sleep quality affects BP trends, how stress days correlate), it adds another data point.
How it works: The ring uses PPG (photoplethysmography) sensors to estimate vascular health signals during sleep. This is different from how a traditional cuff works. The data is most useful when viewed as long-term trends, not single-night readings.
Who finds it useful:
- Users curious about how lifestyle affects vascular patterns
- People who already track sleep and want another data layer
- Anyone interested in long-term health trend monitoring
Who won’t benefit:
- People needing actual BP values for medical reasons
- Users who don’t care about trend data
- Anyone expecting real-time BP readings
3. Longer battery life
RingConn claims 14 days. Real-world testing shows 17 days on a single charge.
Gen 2 claimed 12 days, real-world was 10-11 days.
For travelers, this is meaningful. A 2-week trip without a charger is now realistic.
Battery comparison with competitors:
| Ring | Real-world battery |
|---|---|
| RingConn Gen 3 | 17 days |
| RingConn Gen 2 | 10-11 days |
| Oura Ring 4 | 3-4 days |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring | 4-6 days |
Gen 3’s battery is genuinely class-leading. The gap with Oura is significant: Gen 3 lasts 4-5x longer.
Charging time:
- Full charge: approximately 60-90 minutes
- 50% charge: approximately 30-45 minutes
- Charging case: holds multiple charges for extended trips
4. New sizing system (Gen 2 size doesn’t carry over)
Gen 3 uses a different sizing system. If you wear size 10 in Gen 2, you can’t assume size 10 in Gen 3 fits the same.
RingConn offers a free sizing kit. Use it. Don’t guess based on your Gen 2 ring.
Why the sizing changed: RingConn redesigned the internal sensor layout for Gen 3. The ring shape is slightly different, and the sizing calibration was updated to match.
Common sizing mistakes:
- Guessing based on Gen 2 size (most common error)
- Using jewelry ring size as reference (smart rings fit differently)
- Ordering too tight for “secure fit” (causes discomfort and skin irritation)
- Ordering too loose for comfort (causes sensor rotation and inconsistent data)
5. More sizes and colors
- Sizes: 6-15 (Gen 2 was 6-14)
- Colors: Matte Black, Future Silver, Royal Gold, Brushed Silver, Brushed Rose Gold
What’s the same as Gen 2
- Sleep tracking (same algorithms, same metrics)
- Heart rate and HRV tracking
- Stress and activity scores
- App interface (minor visual tweaks only)
- No subscription (still free)
- Titanium build, similar weight (2-3g depending on size)
If you open the RingConn app on Gen 3, it looks almost identical to Gen 2. The flower visualization is slightly repositioned. The metrics are the same.
What this means: If you’re happy with Gen 2’s tracking, Gen 3 won’t give you “better” sleep data or “more accurate” HRV. The core experience is unchanged.
Who should upgrade to Gen 3
Upgrade if:
- You travel often and hate charging anxiety (17-day battery)
- You want vibration alerts for health patterns
- You’re curious about blood pressure trends
- You’re buying new anyway (pre-order $314 is close to Gen 2’s $299)
- Your Gen 2 battery is degraded after 1+ years of use
Don’t upgrade if:
- You just want sleep and recovery tracking (Gen 2 does this fine)
- You don’t care about vibration or BP trends
- Your Gen 2 still works and battery life is acceptable
- Budget matters (Gen 2 is $50-85 cheaper)
- You just bought Gen 2 recently (less than 6 months)
Real-world friction to expect
- Sizing confusion: Gen 3 sizes don’t match Gen 2. Order the sizing kit.
- Vibration limits: If you expected smartwatch-style notifications, you’ll be disappointed.
- BP feature patience: Blood pressure trends take weeks to show meaningful patterns. One night of data isn’t useful.
- App sameness: If you hoped for a redesigned app, Gen 3 feels like Gen 2 with minor tweaks.
- Gentle vibration: Some users miss alerts during deep sleep. The vibration is intentionally subtle.
Pricing and availability
- Regular price: $349
- Pre-order discount: $314 (ends May 28, 2026)
- Trade-in: Up to $70 discount if you own Gen 1, Gen 2, or Gen 2 Air
Trade-in details: You keep your old ring. RingConn doesn’t require you to send it back. This is useful if you want a backup ring or want to compare Gen 3 vs Gen 2 yourself.
